Fuuast’s retirees urge PM to clear their long-pending dues
KARACHI: Retired teachers and employees of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (Fuuast) have again appealed to the Prime Minister of Pakistan to take immediate steps to ensure payment of their long-pending pension and other outstanding dues.
The appeal came through a resolution passed unanimously at a joint meeting of the Retired Teachers and Employees Committee of the university and members of civil society, held at the Karachi Press Club on Tuesday.
The participants said that pensions of retired university employees had not been paid for the last five months, while other dues had remained unpaid for several years. During this period, 12 retired employees and more than five retired teachers had passed away, but their legal heirs were still unable to receive the payments due to them.
The speakers expressed concern that widows and families of deceased pensioners were facing severe financial hardship due to the non-payment of dues.
Participants further alleged that while retired employees were denied their lawful dues, the vice chancellor was drawing a hefty personal salary and benefits in violation of the recommendations of the university chancellor, President Asif Ali Zardari, and the Higher Education Commission.
