KARACHI, June 12: Judge Haq Nawaz Baloch of the Anti-terrorism Court-III reserved the judgement in the murder case of an assistant sub-inspector on Monday. The judge fixed June 14 for pronouncement of judgement after he heard final arguments from special public prosecutor Mazhar Qayyum and defence counsel Fazalur Rehman Awan.

Sohail has been charged with killing of ASI Riyaz Ahmed on Jan 3 at Mirza Adam Khan Road, Lyari.The victim was going with his wife on his motorcycle when three motorcyclists intercepted him and shot him dead. The culprits also took away the victim’s bike, mobile phone and Rs6,000 from his wife.

The SHO of Chakiwara, who arrested the accused, deposed that he was patrolling the vicinity on Jan 7 when two junk dealers approached him and told him that three bandits had just snatched cash from them. He said police party chased suspects who opened fire on the police party. He said the police also returned the fire and one of the suspects, Sohail, was injured and later arrested. Constable Bashir, who had hit the fleeing accused, supported the statement of the SHO.

The prosecution examined 12 prosecution witnesses, including the victim’s wife, who identified the accused before the trial court.
