Villager, dacoit killed in clash

VEHARI, June 11: A villager and an alleged dacoit were killed during a clash here on Sunday at Mailsi in Mitro police limits.

Reports said a farmer, Allah Yar, of Chak 149-WB was irrigating his fields when three men riding a motorcycle came there.

One of them was driving the bike while the two were carrying goats. Allah Yar suspected them as cattle thieves and intercepted them.

On this, one of the motorcyclists, Zafar Abbas, of Riazabad locality opened fire. Despite severe injuries, the farmer held Zafar by his neck.

In the meantime, relatives of Allah Yar and villagers gathered there while two unknown accomplices of Zafar managed to escape. After sometime, Allah Yar died.

The villagers severely beat up Zafar and later informed the Mitro police. The police shifted him to the THQ hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Police are investigating.

LOOTED: Dacoits took away cash and other valuables in three hits here on Sunday in Mailsi area.

In the first hit, Azhar Nawaz Joya of Kotla Behlol along with Lal Muhammad and Mukhtar Husain was going by his motorcycle when three unidentified dacoits intercepted them at gunpoint and made off with Rs17,000 and the bike.

In another incident, Badruddin Safeer of Safeernagar was on his way home when three dacoits deprived him of Rs16,000.

Three robbers took away Rs20,000 from Siraj Ahmad.

SUBSTANDARD JUICE: A health team on Sunday seized 28,800 packets of substandard mango juice from Burewala.

On a tip-off, a health team, headed by inspector Zulfiqar Gujjar, intercepted a Burewala-bound van No (BRE-1537), recovered packets of mango juice, collected samples and sent to a Multan lab. Salesman Muhammad Rafique and van driver Nazir have been held by the team. According to the team, the juice was to be supplied to various government and private schools of Burewala.
