DERA GHAZI KHAN, June 9: Gastroenteritis broke out in the hostel of nursing school here, sources told Dawn on Friday. They said 10 students of nursing school were brought to the Dera DHQ hospital. Of them seven were in serious condition.

Sources claimed that there was no arrangement of clean drinking water for the 65 students residing in the hostel.

Some students said unhygienic food was being provided to them. They have to purchase drinking water from bazaar.

The school principal could not be contacted despite several attempts for comments.

Meanwhile, the authorities have not yet been able to control gastroenteritis as 30 of the 65 patients admitted to the DHQ hospital have symptoms of the disease.

There are 30 children still under treatment at DHQ hospital. The speed of their recovery is very slow as there was only one medicine available in the hospital’s stock of free medicines.

A doctor said there should be choice of medicines for rapid recovery. — Correspondent
