HYDERABAD, June 9: District Naib Nazim Zafar Rajput has said that a training programme held for 357 women councillors of union councils, taluka councils and the district council is aimed at enhancing their capacity building.

He was speaking at the concluding session of the first training programme for women councillors held here on Thursday.

He said that the training was being provided under the ‘women political school project’ of the United Nations Development Programme.

The programme is being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Development Islamabad and the local government.

He said that under the first phase, out of 357 women councillors of the district, 195 had completed their four-day training course.

He said that remuneration of Rs1,300 had also been paid to each participant for their daily expenses.

He said that women councillors of the district council had already been provided training.

He said that the government was encouraging women as such it had reserved more women seats in all electoral colleges and given representation to them in different committees for public welfare projects upto the gross roots level.

He said the district government believed in serving the people through their own elected representatives as such it had always remained in touch with organisations working for institutional development and capacity building of the manpower.

He said that the district government had also arranged training for councillors, nazims, naib nazims in all talukas with its own resources.

He said that women councillors could play due role not only in development works but also to bring women in the mainstream through their communication skills and efforts for spread of education among them.
