Justice Shaukat quits NIRC

ISLAMABAD: National Industrial Relations Commission (NIRC) Chairman retired Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui has tendered his resignation from the post, citing personal reasons, according to an official notice.

In his resignation, Justice Siddiqui submitted a notice with request for termination of his contract to the President through the secretary of the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development. He said that due to personal reasons, it was no longer possible for him to discharge his responsibilities and perform duties as NIRC chairman.

The notice further stated that one month’s notice was being given under Clause XII of the agreement to terminate the contract.

Justice Siddiqui was appointed as the chairman of the NIRC for three years. The notification of his appointment was issued on Dec 2, 2024, and he assumed the charge of his office on Dec 4, 2024.

Justice Siddiqui’s appointment had come after a significant legal and institutional journey. He was removed from service by the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) following a controversial speech in which he had alleged that then-ISI chief retired Gen Faiz Hameed had been interfering in the judicial affairs. However, the Supreme Court earlier this year set aside the SJC orders.
