SAHIWAL, June 7: About 50-acre agricultural land was submerged when 1-L minor of 9-L distributary developed a 15-feet wide breach on Wednesday at RDs 17-18 near Chak 94/9-L.
Reports said the breach occurred at 3am, and on being informed the irrigation staff plugged the breach at 7am.
LBDC superintending engineer Tariq Jamil told journalists that 1-L minor had only 80 cusec discharge. He claimed that some farmers having lands alongside the minor created a small cut in its bank to water their crops which soon assumed 15-feet width.
He said a case was being registered against those responsible for causing the breach.
SNATCHED: One pick-up and two motorcycles were snatched on gunpoint here on Tuesday night.
Reports said some unidentified men hired the pick-up (LWC-4237) from Okara along with driver Imran Hafeez. Near Chak 75/5-R, the outlaws took the vehicle’s control on gunpoint and threw out the driver and disappeared.
In the other incident, three robbers snatched motorcycle (SLM-6881) from a private firm’s salesman, Nasir Javed, near Chak 164/9-L and fled away.
Meanwhile, two masked robbers snatched motorcycle (PRA-5073) from a farmer, Abdul Razaq, near Kamir Town.
Police separately registered the cases with no arrest or recovery. — Correspondent
