Jamali, Fareeda elected SHCBA president, secretary
KARACHI: Muhammad Haseeb Jamali and Fareeda Mangrio were elected as the president and secretary of the Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA), respectively, in the annual election 2025-26 held on Saturday.
According to unofficial results, Tariq Ali Jakhrani has been elected as vice president, Huzaifa Khan as joint secretary, Naimatullah Shah as treasurer and Roop Mala Singh as additional joint secretary (female affairs) of the SHCBA.
Nasira Brohi, Abdul Wahab Bhutto, Khalid Hussain Shar, Mohammad Atif, Shariq Javed, Imran Taj, Mohammad Farid Bilwani, Rukhsana Umar and Sri Chand have won the election as members of the bar’s managing committee.
Mr Jamali secured the top spot in the SHCBA with a narrow margin of 75 votes, as he obtained 2,679 votes, while the incumbent president, Mohammad Sarfaraz Metlo, managed to secure 2,604 votes.
Ms Mangrio got 2,582 votes and Imran Ali Mithani secured 1,463 votes. Incumbent secretary Mirza Sarfaraz Ahmed was also contesting for another term, but could only secure 1,257 votes.
Mr Jakhrani managed to win the post of vice president with a very thin margin of 14 votes as he obtained 1,497 votes and Tahir Iqbal secured 1,483 votes.
On the post of joint secretary, Huzafia Khan secured 2,311 votes and R. B. Quershi received 2,244 votes. Mr Shah got 3,066 votes to become treasurer and his rival Liaquat Ali Awan obtained 2,074 votes and Ms Singh secured 2,426 votes while Fauzia Mushtaq got 2,193 votes for the position of additional joint secretary.
Earlier, the polling was held on the premises of the SHC from 9am to 5pm. There were around 8,500 eligible voters. Barrister Zulifqar Jalbani acted as election commissioner.
