SUKKUR, June 5: Two people were arrested near the Arain Railway station on Sunday night when they were allegedly planting explosive material on the railway track before the arrival of the Jaffar Khan Jamali express.
Police recovered two hand grenades, one kilogram explosive material, detonators, timers, a KK rifle, magazines, 15 bullets and a stolen motorcycle from the saboteurs.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Sukkur DPO Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh said that on secret information, a police team, led by DSP Manzoor Ahmed Sangri and Abad SHO Jehangir Mahar, cordoned the area.
He said that on seeing police, the terrorists opened fire which was returned.
He said that after a brief encounter police arrested two terrorists Jauhari Khan Rind and Abad Khan Hotkani, both residents of Dera Bugti district.
Their third accomplice Brohi Shar escaped, he said.
The DPO said that during initial interrogation, the accused told that Ahmed Nawaz Rind was supervising the mission.
He said that police received threats after their arrest and when phone calls were traced, it was revealed that calling numbers were of public call offices of Jafferabad and Naseerabad towns of Balochistan.
He said that the terrorists were threatening of blowing up Lansdown bridge and Sukkur barrage.
He said that security had been tightened at all important and sensitive places while plain-clothed policemen had been deployed to keep vigilant eye.
He said that close circuit cameras would also be installed at various places to monitor activities of the terrorists.
Killed: One person was killed over an old enmity in village Sabir Hussain Mashoori in Ghotki district.
Reports said a group of armed persons had fired on Sobal Mashoori, who was sleeping, killing him on the spot.
Locals said the reason of the murder was an old enmity.
Later, the Sarhad police arrested a suspect, Sharif Mashoori.
