JHANG, June 5: A civil judge in Shorkot on Monday sentenced an Ahmadi to two years imprisonment and a fine of Rs5,000 for re-writing Kalima Tayyaba on his place of worship.

Shorkot police had registered an FIR under Section 295-C against Haq Nawaz and others of Chak 20 (Ghagh) in October 1998 on the complaint of Hafiz Dost Mohammad who had accused three people of re-writing the Kalima Tayyaba on their place of worship. The court, however, converted the charges under Section 295-C into Section 298-C on appeal of the accused.

One of the accused expired during the trial while another went abroad. Haq Nawaz continued appearing in the court and was sent to jail after being convicted.— Correspondent
