NAWABSHAH: The 754th urs celebrations of Hazrat Syed Ali Asghar Shah, known as Sakhi Jam Dattar, were inaugurated at Jam Sahab Town on Monday.

Shaheed Benazirabad Commissioner Shahmeer Khan Bhutto, Deputy Commissioner Abdul Samad Nizamani, PPP District President Muhammad Saalim Zardari, and Sajjada Nashin of the Dargah Faqeer Naveed Hussain Vistro inaugurated the three-day celebrations by laying the traditional chadar at the shrine.

Special prayers were offered for the peace, prosperity, and security of the country while a local holiday was declared across Shaheed Benazirabad.

Speaking to the media, Commissioner Bhutto highlighted Sakhi Jam Dattar’s message of love, tolerance, and service to mankind. He said the shrines of saints are places of peace, brotherhood, and spiritual guidance, and that the dargah of Sakhi Jam Dattar has inspired devotees for centuries.

He shared that instructions had been issued to district and town administrations to provide all possible facilities to devotees during the three-day urs.

Medical camps were set up by the Health Department and police personnel were deployed for security.

Later, the commissioner and deputy commissioner inaugurated stalls featuring cultural and scientific artefacts as well as medical camps set up by the health, agriculture, and livestock departments. They appreciated the students’ scientific models and encouraged them.

Traditional sports such as horse racing, kabaddi, and wrestling were also held on the first day of the urs.
