MANSEHRA: The police on Wednesday reviewed the security of Chinese engineers and workers engaged in the Suki Kinari and Balakot hydropower projects following the fresh wave of terrorism in the country.
“We have placed our deployment at both the energy projects on high alert to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals following the recent subversive activities in parts of the country,” district police officer Mohammad Azhar Khan told reporters.
The DPO, who was recently posted here, accompanied by DSP Special Security Unit (Paras) Sadaqat Nisar, DSP (Balakot) Sabir Khan, and other officials visited the project sites in Kaghan Valley along the Kunhar River to review security arrangements.
Mr Khan also inspected the residential camps of Chinese engineers and workers.
“You should strictly follow the protocols set by the government for your safety at the worksites and residential camps,” he told the Chinese engineers.
Chinese experts briefed the police officers on the measures in place for their safety.
“We have been strictly following the security protocols established by the government,” an expert said.
The DPO also held a meeting with army officers and discussed measures for the foolproof security of Chinese nationals.
Mr Khan also later addressed the police personnel deployed at both the hydropower projects.
ROAD: The district administration on Wednesday directed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Highway Authority to complete the asphalt work on the Oghi-Shergar Road without delay.
“Motorists and passengers are suffering due to the delay in completion of the road’s blacktopping, which links Oghi with Shergar and onward to Darband,” Oghi assistant commissioner Mohammad Ali told reporters.
He said he had summoned the contractor and the authority’s officials to his office on the direction of the deputy commissioner and directed them to ensure early completion of the project.
Mr Ali said: “In line with the DC’s directives, various development projects are being executed in both the urban and rural parts of Oghi tehsil to benefit people.”
