SUKKUR, June 3: The Sukkur circuit bench of the Sindh High Court has ordered federal and Sindh governments to complete drainage project of the city in two months and report progress on August 8.

The division bench comprising Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani and Justice Ameer Muslim Hani issued the orders on a constitutional petition.

Advocate Shabbir Shar filed the petition on behalf of Lala Asad Pathan.

The chief secretary of the planning and development, Islamabad, and the additional secretary of the planning and development department, Sindh, told the court that an amount of Rs2 billion had been allocated for water supply and drainage systems of the city.

The court ordered them to release the amount immediately keeping in view human lives and start the work as soon as possible.

The chief engineer of the public health department told the court that treatment plants would be started to release the sewage in the Indus river after treatment and a firm from Mirpurkhas would be awarded contract.

The lawyer for the petitioner raising objection said that the contract would be awarded on the political basis. On this the court rejecting his point of view directed to carry out the work through the DCO Sukkur.

SHC: The SHC has ordered the taluka council not to use the Jinnah Municipal Stadium for other than sports events.

The division bench of the Sindh High Court comprising Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani and Justice Ameer Muslim Hani issued the orders on Thursday on a petition filed by Syed Abdullah Ali Talat through his lawyer Imtiaz Soomro.

The petitioner stated that the stadium was being allotted for political gatherings, musical events and other such events due to which its condition was deteriorating and sport-lovers were facing hardships due to bad condition of the stadium.
