OKARA, June 3: People’s Party provincial president and opposition leader in Punjab Assembly Qasim Zia has said after signing of Charter of Democracy by the country’s two big political parties, other parties are also joining them thus developing pressure on Gen Pervaiz Musharraf.

He was speaking at a press conference on Saturday noon at a local marriage hall on the occasion of joining of Rao Khalid and Rao Humayun the PPP. The two brothers are first cousin to Defence Minister Rao Skindar Iqbal.

PPP former provincial information secretary Naveed Chaudhry, former opposition leader in Punjab Assembly Rana Ikram Rabbani, PPP district president MPA Ashraf Sohna and other office bearers were present.

Besides the Rao brothers, Advocate Hasan Nawaz Bhatty, Advocate Riaz Khichi and Rao Ali Haider also announced joining the PPP.

Qasim Zia said in spite of indirect support of MMA to the uniform issue, “we would continue struggle for a grand opposition alliance.”

Replying to another question, he said the ARD has not so far decided to boycott the general election if held under the present setup.

Mr Zia said the PPP and chairperson Benazir Bhutto were in support of grant of ownership rights to the tenants of military farms across the country.
