Woman commits suicide
GUJAR KHAN: A married woman on Thursday took her life after leaving behind video statements accusing a jeweler and his accomplices of trapping her in a web of usury, extortion and blackmail.
The police have registered an FIR [First Information Report] on the complaint of Sheraz Aftab, the husband of the 45-year-old woman Nadia Sheraz, who committed suicide by taking some poisonous pills.
She was the mother of an 11-year-old daughter.
Sheraz Aftab, a cloth merchant, reported to the police that the jeweler trapped his wife as a customer and extorted over 38 tola gold from her. Later, he alleged, the jeweler got a loan from a bank in the name of the woman and she was asked to pay back it with interest.
The complainant said that his wife had left video messages recorded by her before her death and after taking the pills in which she could be seen telling that she was forced to die due to blackmailing by the jeweler.
A police official told Dawn that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had also taken notice of the incident.
Regional Police Officer (RPO) Muhammad Sarfraz Alpa has sought a report of this incident and directed the concerned station house officer to make arrests of the accused persons.
