SUKKUR: Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on Tuesday inaugurated the Rohri Cattle Colony, built at a cost of Rs610m for cattle owners and dairy farmers.

Speaking at the opening ceremony and later to the media, the minister said that now when the Cattle Colony had been put into operation, all buffalo pens existing anywhere in Sukkur or Rohri should be moved to the new place.

He pointed out that there were 40 sheds built within the colony for cattle heads, and said that well over 2,000 buffalos could be accommodated in these sheds.

Nasir Shah said that owners of cattle pens and sheds could also produce dairy products, besides milk, to increase their income. He pledged that the government would extend loan facility to them, if they wished so, to help them establish or expand their businesses.

Spread over 58 acres, the colony is situated near Aror University.

Nasir Shah said it offered facilities like solar power system, drinking water and security cover, and had the potential of becoming one of the country’s largest cattle colonies.

The minister directed the Sukkur district administration to take appropriate action if any owner of cattle pen in Sukkur or Rohri refused to move it to the new colony.

In reply to a question about the proposed 27th constitutional amendment, the minister said that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) would not support any of its clause that was found in conflict with the interests of the province or the country.

The ceremony was attended by Sukkur District Council Chairman Syed Kumail Hyder Shah, Deputy Commissioner Nadir Shahzad Khan, besides a large number of cattle owners and residents of the area.
