Homage paid to Nusrat Bhutto on 14th death anniversary

LARKANA: Leaders, activists and supporters of Pakistan Peoples Party on Thursday observed the 14th death anniversary of former first lady Begum Nusrat Bhutto, with great respect and reverence across Sindh.

A large number of them gathered at Naudero House in the morning to attend a Quran Khwani for the departed soul of ‘Mother of Democracy’ and then proceeded to the Bhuttos’ mausoleum in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto to offer fateha on her grave.

The programme was organised by PPP Larkana district chapter and attended by its president MNA Khursheed Junejo, general secretary (also District Council Chairman) Khair Mohammed Shaikh, CM’s Special Assistant and the party’s Larkana city president Mansoor Soomro, Syed Arshad Rashdi, Mohammad Anwar Buriro, Abdul Khaliq Bhutto, Sarfraz Mirani, Tufail Bhutto, PPP women wing leader Sakeena Gad, Muradan Chandio, Basheeran Moghal, Amina Narijo, Rehana Siyal and Shabana Domki, as well as office-bearers and workers of the PPP’s all sister organisations in the district.

They showered rose petals on the grave of Begum Bhutto and those of her spouse and executed prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, her daughter and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto and other members of the Bhutto family.

The senior PPP leaders, speaking to the participants and media, paid rich tributes to Begum Nusrat Bhutto recalling that she had played a pivotal role in the restoration of democracy in the country and courageously stood up against military dictator General Ziaul Haq. Despite facing brutal torture during the Martial Law era, she continued her struggle against dictatorial forces. “Today, we pay tribute to the sacrifices and lifelong struggle of the Mother of Democracy,” they said.

In his statement on the occasion, PPP Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro also paid glowing tributes to Begum Bhutto, saying that she bravely struggled against the dictatorship, endured hardships, but never bowed her head. He said she raised her voice for democracy and against oppression, and became a symbol of resistance to tyranny. She remained a beacon of hope for the party’s workers during difficult times and continued to advance the mission of democracy despite imprisonment and sufferings.
