PTCL posts Rs1.2bn loss

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) reported a net loss of Rs1.2 billion for the nine months ended Sept 30, despite a rise in operating profit and overall revenue growth.

The financial results, approved by the company’s board of directors, showed that PTCL Group revenue increased by 15 per cent year-on-year. PTCL’s standalone revenue rose by 13pc during the period, driven largely by a 56pc increase in Flash Fibre and 17pc growth in Business Solutions.

Operating profit stood at Rs12.9bn, reflecting a 57pc increase compared to the same period last year. However, the company incurred a net loss due to a one-off provision of Rs5.9bn in additional pension liabilities, following a decision by the Supreme Court.

PTCL’s mobile arm, Ufone 4G, recorded a 15pc rise in revenue. Its earnings before interest and tax reached Rs11.9bn, up from Rs1.6bn.

UMicrofinance Bank posted 19pc growth in revenue year-on-year. The results reflect a mixed performance.
