LAHORE, May 31: The people of Lahore saw yet another hard day with continual power tripping and fluctuations on Wednesday. Wind and rain in the evening brought some relief to the people but later they raised the spectre of another hot and humid spell.
There was hardly any part of the city where there was some relief as far as the power supply was concerned. Complaints kept pouring in from different localities and many people said power fluctuations during the last 24 hours had caused damage to their electronic gadgets.
“The Lahore Electric Supply Company has literally pushed the city back to mediaeval ages,” says Abid Butt of Tajpura Housing Scheme. For the last many days, almost all gadgets are on the blink; the refrigerator has stopped working and all eatables at his house have gone rotten.
“One cannot use a computer these days because of frequent fluctuations. So is the case with air-conditioners, which run the risk of being damaged,” he said.
The power authorities knew that the consumption was increasing every year at a certain rate, said Mr Majid Naqvi of Model Town. “Wapda authorities should be wise enough to keep pace with the consumption expansion. They have rather developed a habit of putting all the blame on enhanced power consumption every year. —Staff Reporter
