NOWSHERA, May 31: Three armed men stormed a primary school in Bara Banda area on Wednesday and shot dead a teacher and a student. Another student was injured in the attack, witnesses said.
The killing sparked protest in the area. Angry protesters carrying bodies took out a procession and blocked the main Nowshera-Mardan Road for about an hour.
The deceased were identified as Ubaidullah, teacher, and Mohammed Hussain, son of Gul Mohammed.
The injured was admitted to a hospital.
A resident of the locality, Dost Mohammad, lodged an FIR with the Risalpur police. He said that Zahid, Hakim and Ubaid, who carried fire weapons, barged into Government Primary School No 3 Bara Banda at around 10am.
The three had a rivalry with Gul Mohammed and reportedly wanted to settle the score by killing his son.
The accused entered the classroom where Mr Ubaidullah was announcing annual results. The accused opened fire at Mr Ubaidullah when he tried to protect his students and then killed Mohammad Hussain. Another student, Maaz, suffered injuries.
The district police officer visited the school and recorded statements of witnesses.
The teachers’ association condemned the attack and called upon the police to arrest the culprits within a week.
