KARACHI, May 31: The Muttahida Talaba Mahaz, a federation of 12 student organizations, has been reactivated to resolves educational problems, said a spokesman for the front on Wednesday.
During a recent meeting, the MTM decided to include more student organizations in its struggle for restoration of student unions, resist imposition of any ban on educational activities by students in educational institutions, and unnecessary interference of official quarters in educational institutions, the spokesman added.
An eight-member committee, headed by Irfan Baloch of the People’s Students Federation, was formed to evolve a future line of action of the front in the next two weeks.
The front also opposed the Model University Ordinance, introduction of four-year degree programmes, appointment or posting of armed forces personnel in varsities, working of the Aga Khan Educational Board and deletion of Islamic and ideological literature from courses of studies.
It also demanded the removal of Rangers from universities.
The organizations of the Mahaz included the Islami Jamiat Talaba, Imamia Students Organizations, Anjuman Talaba-i-Islam, People’s Students Federation, Rajput Students Federation, Punjabi Students Association, Punjabi Pakhtoon Students, Hazara Students Federation, Muslim Students Federation, People’s Lawyers Students, Dawa Students Federation, and the Jamiat Talaba Arabia, said a press release.
