MARDAN, Feb 7: An assistant professor of College No. 2, Mardan, escaped unhurt when a student of third year allegedly fired on him over an issue of fine on Wednesday.

The principal of the college, Fida Mohammed, told Dawn that an assistant professor and the chief proctor of the college, Iftikhar Anwar, had fined Fawad Rs100 for not wearing uniform and entering the college by scaling the wall.

He said the student had been informed about the fine through a notice, displayed on the notice board, but he had torn up it.

The principal said the student had arrived in his office in a very rude manner and had argued that as he had not come to the college the day when he had been fined, the question of fining him did not arise.

He said Fawad had demanded of him to withdraw the fine or “face the music.”

On Wednesday, after the college hours, the student stopped Mr Anwar outside the college premises and rudely asked him why he had fined him, forcefully taking a 100-rupee note out of the professor’s pocket. He was alleged to have opened fire on Mr Anwar, who escaped unhurt.

The students of the college later held a protest meeting and condemned the attack on the chief proctor. They marched up to the office of the DSP and demanded that an FIR be registered against Fawad.
