4 die after taking poisonous liquor

BAHAWALPUR, May 27: Four people were killed on Saturday after they took poisonous liquor at Nazirabad Colony. According to reports, Iqbal alias Bala, Afzal, Muneer and Amir consumed poisonous liquor and died. The condition of Karim Bakhsh was stated to be critical.

No case was registered owing to the jurisidiction dispute between the Saddar and Civil Lines police stations.

Dualisation: The Punjab Planning and Development Board (P&D) approved on Saturday the dualisation of Ahmadpur East Road and giving a green signal to the district government bahawalpur to undertake the project.

DCO Muhammad Ashraf told Dawn here that the approval by the board was accorded at its meeting held in Lahore on Saturday.

He said the 4.5-kilomteres long road from Fowara Chowk to Karachi Morr would cost about Rs110 million. The dual carriageway would also have a green belt. The work on the project would start next month after ground-breaking by the chief minister, he added.

He said the district government has already begun preliminary work on this project.

The DCO said a survey to make the existing airport road from Sadder bridge into a dual carriageway was being conducted. The project was estimated to cost Rs200 million and the district government would ask the chief minister to allocate funds for the project.
