‘Charter a move to befool people’

LAHORE, May 27: Parliamentary Affairs State Minister Kamil Ali Agha has dismissed the Charter of Democracy (CoD) terming it an abortive move by former prime ministers Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto to fool the people and return to power.

Talking to reporters here on Saturday, he said that both the leaders had been rejected by the electorate and their desire to rule the country again was nothing more than what he called daydreaming.

The minister, who is also provincial information secretary of the ruling PML, said the two former premiers would have done better if they had set a deadline to return to the exchequer, “the national wealth they had looted while in power”.

Mr Agha said drafting a good document was a technical job which could be done by any person good at English. He said the real test lay in implementing what had been promised by the signatories.
