‘Three MNAs disqualified’
ISLAMABAD, May 26: Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Sher Afgan has said that MNAs Dr Sara Tariq, Haider Bugti and Ayala Malik stand ineligible to be members of the assembly and a request will be made to the speaker to issue an official notification in this regard.
In an interview to a private TV channel on Friday, he said that a forth regular absentee, Rana Tariq Javed, had appeared in the previous session and submitted an application for leave.
Sources said that MNA Tariq Javed was frustrated when former prime minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali denied him a ministry. Thereafter he attended just one meeting to cast his vote of confidence for Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.
Similarly, Dr Sara Tariq, MNA elected on a special seat for women, did not attend even a single meeting of the assembly during the first two years and even now her attendance is close to nil.
Informed sources said that MNA Aayla Malik, after her marriage with federal Minister for Frontier Region Yar Muhammad Rind two years ago, appeared just once in the house, that too for casting her vote of confidence for Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.
From the opposition benches, MNA Haider Bugti has not appeared even once over the past three and a half years.
However it is learnt that the MNAs regularly draw their salary of Rs37,400.
According to assembly rules, a motion can be tabled against an MNA who does not attend the assembly’s session for more than 40 days and if the motion is approved, he would cease to be a member of the house. —Online
