NCCIA asked to decide plea for case against YouTuber
LAHORE: An ex-officio justice of peace has directed the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to decide in accordance with law an application seeking registration of a case against YouTuber ‘R’ for allegedly making a blasphemous video.
Additional District & Sessions Judge Shafqat Shahbaz Raja heard the petition filed by a citizen, Shahzada Adnan, who accused the YouTuber of using derogatory and offensive language in his video.
The petitioner alleged that the YouTuber’s conduct was unlawful and highly offensive. He asked the court to direct the agency to register a case against the YouTuber.
The NCCIA submitted an initial report in compliance with the court’s order.
A prosecutor informed the court that several similar applications against the YouTuber had been received and sent to the concerned authority – the anti-blasphemous cell – which was bound to proceed further after receiving the evidence/material.
In view of the report, the judge directed the anti-blasphemous cell of the NCCIA to conclude the proceedings within the stipulated time and to proceed in accordance with law, if cognisable offence is made out. The judge disposed of the petition.
