LAHORE, May 24: The City District Government Lahore has decided to collect water samples from consumers’ houses instead of Wasa tube-wells to identify reasons behind the water contamination.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by City District Nazim Mian Amir Mahmood at his office, who returned from abroad on Wednesday.
There have been consistent complaints about supply of contaminated and filthy water in various city localities by Wasa whose officials claim that the rusted service pipes at consumers’ houses were responsible for it.
To clear the confusion and fix responsibility it has been decided that 60 samples will be collected from all nine towns daily for their chemical analysis.
Mian Amer said the chemical analysis reports should be sent to him and in case of any contamination, necessary steps should be taken for removing the causes behind it.
Another decision taken to help check polluted water supply was ensuring use of poly-ethylene pipes for all home service lines as consumers would be asked to pay for it along with the demand notice.
The nazim directed flushing of water supply lines and installation of taps at all Wasa tube-wells so that citizens could get water according to their needs.
The meeting also decided to form CDGL and LDA teams for visiting tube-wells to verify Wasa claims of chlorination.
Wasa authorities were asked to get Lesco load management schedule so that required number of tube-wells could be kept operational at a given time for maintaining requisite quantity of water in supply lines.
DCO Mian Muhammad Ijaz, LDA director-general Raja Muhammad Abbas, Wasa MD Inam Qadir and others attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, the CDGL has also decided provision of ORS packets free of cost in congested areas and kutcha abadis of the city to help check stomach ailments among children.
The district nazim directed the EDO (health) to immediately launch the campaign and make public the schedule of health teams’ visits to various localities for the purpose.
