NAWABSHAH, May 21: About 200 primary schools for boys and girls are lying closed in three talukas of the district depriving village children of education.

Sources in the district education department said that a summary recommending reopening of 144 primary schools had been sent by the district education department to the provincial education department, district officers and the district nazim but the matter remain pending all the way for the reasons best known to them.

It may be mentioned that the Sindh government had declared primary education as compulsory for every children and the Sakrand taluka of the district was selected for pilot project.

The government had distributed books free of cost and paying monthly scholarship of Rs100 to girl students with a view to promote education and literacy rate in the province.

The closure of primary schools in a large number in the district might hamper the efforts of the government.—PPI
