Jhelum admin issues alert of expected cloudbursts, rainfall

GUJAR KHAN: The district administration of Jhelum has warned residents about the dangers of anticipated cloudbursts and heavy rainfall in the hilly areas.

Residents of localities along the banks of Gahaan and Banhaan nullahs have been instructed to move all valuables and cattle to safer locations.

According to a notification released to the press and posted on the deputy commissioner Jhelum’s Facebook page, Syed Meisam Abbas, following meteorological forecasts of danger from cloudbursts and heavy rains, has directed residents of vulnerable areas to relocate to safer places for the next three days.

The deputy commissioner stated that the administration, including civil defence and Rescue 1122, has been placed on high alert to manage any emergencies. During the previous spell, large areas of the Jhelum district and some parts of Chakwal were inundated, resulting in casualties.

Mr Abbas also noted that rainwater from nullahs flowing into the Jhelum district and the hilly terrains of Tilla Jogian, Jalal Pur, Taraki, and the Salt Range could trigger flash floods in heavy downpours. Therefore, the public has been warned well in advance.
