KARACHI, May 19: The newly constituted provincial financial commission held its first meeting with Finance Adviser M.A. Jalil in the chair here on Friday.
The commission reviewed the problems of district governments, taluka and union councils for the fiscal 2006-07 and considered various proposals regarding division of resources between provincial and district governments, taluka and union councils.
It was decided in principle that the amount collected on account of rural octroi tax should be handed over to taluka councils and in future as well these would stand transferred to taluka councils which would distribute the same among union councils. Besides, the taluka councils will also be responsible for staff of union councils.
The meeting decided that Rs450 million would be provided out of district octroi tax to new seven district governments—APP
