KARACHI: A suspect allegedly involved in the rape and murder of a minor girl has been arrested, it emerged on Thursday.
Thirteen-year-old Areeba was sexually assaulted and then strangled to death after she left her uncle’s home on July 11 to deliver lunch to her father in a nearby house in the Kokhrapar area.
Korangi SSP (Investigation) Mohammed Qais Khan told Dawn that police had arrested the suspect in connection with the case.
He said the investigation team employed all available resources, including human intelligence to trace out the suspect. Several suspects were shortlisted and placed under surveillance. Based on technical evidence, the suspect, Mohammed Uzaib, was arrested, he added.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to his crime, the SSP claimed, and identified the actual crime scene and shared further details of the offence.
Police-Rangers operation
The Sindh Rangers and police, acting upon intelligence reports, conducted a joint operation in the Superhighway, Sohrab Goth, Gadap Town and Northern Bypass areas rounded up six suspects allegedly involved in looting cargo trucks and kidnapping their drivers, reports APP.
A spokesperson for the Rangers said on Thursday that the law-enforcement agencies recovered one 308 bore rifle with three magazines, one 12-bore rifle with two magazines, three pistols with their ammunition, and a motorcycle used in criminal activities.
