PESHAWAR, May 17: The Teaching Staff Association of the Lady Reading Hospital and Hayatabad Medical Complex have urged the government to regularise the services of contractual doctors.

Speaking at a news conference, president of the Association Dr Waqar Alam Jan said that even senior registrars and assistant professors had been appointed on contractual basis, adding that the appointments were made by the Public Service Commission or the hosptals’ management councils.

He said that the provincial health department had prepared a bill to regularise their services but the bureaucracy was creating hurdles in the provincial assembly.

He urged the provincial government to remove bureaucratic bottlenecks and ensure quick passing of the bill.

Dr Waqar said that the government should include at least two association members in the committee constituted to upgrade the Khyber Medical College. He also expressed concern over non-implementation of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council’s guidelines in promotion of teaching staff.
