KARACHI, May 17: Chairman of the Sindh National Front Sardar Mumtaz Ali Bhutto said on Wednesday that federal Interior Minister Aftab Sherpao had rightly termed the Charter of Democracy, signed by PPP and PML-N in London a ‘joke with democracy’ because it envisaged abolition of only the concurrent list which, in fact, was useless in prevailing political scenario.
In a statement, Sardar Bhutto said that the main issue at present was the division of powers between the federation and the federating units, adding that the abolition of concurrent list would make no difference.
“In spite of the abolition of the concurrent list, the federation would maintain its dictatorship over the provinces.”
He was of the view that the country would remain in the grave constitutional crisis unless all provinces were granted autonomy as envisaged in the 1940 Pakistan Resolution.
“Whatever the things this Charter of Democracy contains, Ms Bhutto and Mr Sharif had been violating the same during their 10-year tenure. Therefore, no one can trust them any more.”
He said the opposition parties should unite on the one-point agenda that he had suggested for attaining provincial autonomy, and should launch a forceful movement for the purpose.—PPI
