From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1950: Seventy-five years ago: Bari resigns

LAHORE: The dramatic announcement on Tuesday [July 25] by Mian Abdul Bari, tendering his resignation from the Presidentship of the Provincial Muslim League after remaining in office for about 15 months, climaxed the stormy proceedings of the Provincial League Council which had been in session for the last three days. The President then adjourned the meeting without going through the rest of the agenda which included a resolution on Korea, the Public Safety Act and the League manifesto. The League Secretary is expected to announce a meeting of the Council “after due deliberations” to consider the resignation of the Mian.

It is obvious that with the resignation of Mian Sahib from the Presidentship of the Provincial Muslim League the straight tussle between the Mamdot and Daultana groups has shifted from the floor of the House to the tactical field. An analysis of the voting on the resolution against Malik Mohammad Anwar shows that the Daultana group has a majority of 26 votes in a House of 367 which includes 20 nominated members, now aligned with the Daultana group.
