Powerloom workers’ protest

FAISALABAD, May 16: Hundreds of powerloom workers staged a sit-in in front of the offices of city district nazim and demanded implementation of the salary agreement accorded between the employers and employees here on Tuesday.

The protesters marched through various city roads carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans in favour of their demand. They chanted slogans against the powerloom owners adding that they were being paid 50 per cent of their salaries.

They claimed that they were working in two shifts in 24 hours in highly unhygienic conditions but they were being paid less than the agreed amounts due to negligence of the social security and district government officials.

They demanded the implementation of wages pattern according to rules and regulations. The protesters also staged a demonstration in front of the press club.

SHOP ROBBERY: Two robbers snatched thousands of rupees in cash and gold from a jeweller’s shop here on Tuesday.

The outlaws entered the Baig Jewellers on Dijkot Road and held the salesmen at gunpoint. They collected 26 tolas of gold from the showcases worth Rs350,000 and snatched Rs47,000 in cash.

The police were informed immediately about the incident but they failed to trace the clue of the outlaws.
