Shangla residents protest ‘poor’ mobile phone services

SHANGLA: Residents of Kana tehsil on Sunday staged a protest rally in Shahpur bazaar against poor mobile phone services, saying they are unable to connect to their family members abroad.

The residents of Kana tehsil gathered in the main Shahpur bazaar, carrying placards and banners inscribed with demands for provision of better mobile network facilities. They also chanted slogans against the elected representatives.

The speakers at the rally said since the last four months the mobile networks in their areas had not been working properly, while they were also deprived of the smooth internet connectivity.

Abbas Khan, a local activist, said two mobile networks were available in the area, but both were out of order, while the 4G internet was often inaccessible to the users.

He said they paid their hard-earned money to use mobile services to communicate with their family members abroad, but the poor internet and mobile networks had deprived them of the facility.

Ubaidullah Abid said the spotty networks had rendered their life paralysed as there were no proper commercial banks in the entire tehsil, and the people mostly used Jazz cash and Easypaisa services for their online businesses and other transactions, but unfortunately, they faced difficulty and could not avail the essential services.

Muhammad Hassan said that the people had warned the authorities to immediately stabilize internet and mobile networks; otherwise they would launch a protest and block the Karakoram Highway.
