CHARSADDA: The district administration retrieved about 223 kanals of land form grabbers during an operation against encroachments in Shabqadar and Tangi tehsils here on Friday.

According to officials, about 27 kanals and five marlas of commercial land was retrieved in Shabqadar and 196 kanals in Tangi.

On the directives of deputy commissioner Dr Azmatullah Wazir, additional assistant commissioner, Shabqadar, Mohammad Tariq along with irrigation department’s sub-divisional officer conducted an operation against encroachments on Matta Road in Shabqadar.

Illegal shops and cabins built on the irrigation channels and government land were demolished using heavy machinery. The land retrieved in Shabqadar valued at Rs190 million.

Meanwhile, during a major action by anti-corruption department and district administration in Mira Barzai area of Tangi tehsil, 196 kanals of government land worth over Rs590 million were recovered from the land grabbers.

The land recovery process was completed peacefully under the supervision of Tangi assistant commissioner Waqasur Rehman.

Mr Rehman said that the recovered land included the land of sports and irrigation departments. He said that the land in question had long been in the possession of land grabbers.
