No anti-rabies vaccine in Sialkot, Narowal

SIALKOT, May 15: There is no anti-rabies vaccine in all the hospitals, rural health centres and basic health units in Sialkot and Narowal districts since long. The health department officials told newsmen here on Monday that the vaccine has not yet been provided by the provincial health department despite repeated appeals by the district governments.

People have expressed grave concern over the situation and urged the provincial government to ensure early provision of the vaccine.

ASEAN envoys: A delegation of ambassadors of ASEAN countries will reach here on a two-day visit on May 17.

District nazim Akmal Cheema told journalists here on Monday that the ambassadors would address a meeting of businessmen at the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI).

The delegation comprises ambassadors of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

They would visit dryport, the under-construction airport, sports, surgical instruments and leather goods manufacturing units.

SHOT DEAD: Three robbers shot dead Ahle Hadith Youth Force vice-president Hafiz Zeeshan, 20, in his house in Mustafa Town, Hajipura, on Sunday night.

The robbers stormed into the house, held the family members, including women and children, at gunpoint and started collecting valuables. They beat up women on offering resistance.

As Hafiz Zeeshan put up resistance, the robbers shot and killed him on the spot. The robbers escaped with gold ornaments, cash, electronics and other valuables worth Rs2.6 million.

Hajipura police have registered a case, with no arrest.

Meanwhile, the Ahle Hadith Youth Force protested against the murder, demanding immediate arrest of the killers.
