BAHAWALPUR: The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), south Punjab, management blocked 508 retailers, getting registered 22 FIRs, resulting in the arrest of 23 persons, from April to June 2025,on the charges of illegal deductions and other financial irregularitiesin making payments to the beneficiaries.
This was claimed by BISP South Punjab Zonal Director Ms Saima Bashir on Monday.
According to her, the BISP management is taking these measures to maintain transparency, honestyand ensure the protection of the rights of the deserving women in the distribution of the quarterly installments under the programme.
She said that during the scrutiny process of the BISP beneficiaries and of the mode of payment to them, gross violations were detected by these 508 retailers against whom action was taken.
She added that the management wanted to ensure that the beneficiaries should get their full amounts without any deduction.
ARRESTED: Lahore’s Civil Lines police have arrested a man for allegedly supplying drugs to his customers, impersonating a ‘magistrate’ and using a car with a fake registration plate and warning light.
As per the police, the suspect, later identified as Imran Khursheed Awan, a resident of 495/EB village in Vehari district was arrested supplying drugs in Lahore after he introduced himself as a magistrate.
According to police sources, a car with a fake official number plate and warning light being used by Awan has also been impounded. He may be handed over to Vehari police, they added.
DACOITS ARRESTED: Police claimed to have arrested two alleged dacoits in injured condition in separate encounters in Multan and Vehari.
As per police, in an encounter in the limits of Gulgashat police station, Multan, one Baqir alias Juma Pawli was arrested.
Sharing details, the police said they set up a picket at Basti Dharbian in the early hours of Monday, where they signaled three motorcyclists to stop. Instead of stopping, the suspects allegedly opened fire on the police team, which retaliated.
After an exchange of fire between the two sides, the police found a suspect lying injured there.
The police claimed the suspect was injured in the firing by his own fleeing accomplices. He was arrested and admitted to the hospital, where he was identified as Baqir.
The police registered a case against the suspect.
In another encounter in Vehari, the police claimed to have arrested an alleged dacoit, identified as Ejaz alias Jajji, a resident of 333/WB village in injured condition after an encounter.
The police claimed the suspect was injured in the firing by his own accomplices, who fledunder the cover of darkness.
The police said Jajji was allegedly involved in many criminal casesand a 30-bore pistol was recovered from him.
A case against the suspect and his fleeing accomplice has been registered.
