LAHORE, May 13: The use of cell phone while driving is a major reason behind accidents on highways, says National Highways and Motorway Police inspector-general Ahmad Nasim.
Speaking at a ceremony held at Thokar Niaz Beg here on Saturday to honour officials of the force who had shown good performance, he asked the police to educate motorists on the risks involved owing to cell phone use and ignoring the utility of seat belts.
The force is currently launching a campaign for creating public awareness on the issues. Briefing camps are being organised at various places and pamphlets distributed among the masses.
The officials will go to the bus terminals and educational institutions for giving the concept of safe driving to children. After reaching a maximum number of motorists during the three-month campaign which started on April 20, the police would fine violators. —Staff Reporter
