LAHORE: An election tribunal comprising Justice Sultan Tanvir Ahmad of the Lahore High Court dismissed an election petition challenging the victory of Federal Minister for Communication Aleem Khan from NA-117, Lahore.
PTI-backed independent candidate Ali Ijaz had challenged Khan’s victory.
During the proceedings, the minister’s counsel raised objections regarding the maintainability of the petition, saying it was filed without proper attestation by an oath commissioner, rendering it legally invalid.
The petitioner had argued that according to Form 45, Aleem Khan had lost the election, but was declared successful in Form 47. He requested the tribunal to set aside the notification of the minister’s victory and declare him (the petitioner) a returned candidate from the constituency.
After hearing the arguments, the tribunal dismissed the petition.
Aleem Khan, also president of the Istehkam-i-Pakistan Party (IPP), had secured 91,498 votes while the runner-up candidate obtained 80,838 votes.
