France urges ‘restraint’ and diplomacy after US strikes on Iran
France has expressed concern on strikes carried out by the US against three nuclear sites in Iran, Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said, urging a negotiated solution to the crisis.
“France urges the parties to exercise restraint to avoid any escalation that could lead to an extension of the conflict,” Barrot wrote on X, adding that the country has repeatedly expressed firm opposition to Iran acquiring nuclear weapons.
“France is convinced that a lasting resolution to this issue requires a negotiated solution within the framework of the Non-Proliferation Treaty,” he added.
He further said France has taken note of the statement by IAEA confirming that no high level of radiation have been detected.
