GUJRAT, May 11: The Gujrat tehsil nazim on Thursday foiled an attempt by some influential people to occupy two kanals of the tehsil municipal administration, but the latter did the same with the alleged connivance of a political figure.
Reports said union council nazim Chaudhry Zubair Kolowal and his men started constructing shops on the TMA’s land near the general bus stand. On information, tehsil nazim Chaudhry Saadat Nawaz Ajnala along with TMA officials and the police reached the spot and demolished the shops.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the grabbers showed some documents to Ajnala, but he told them that the land was TMA’s property and expressed his suspicion about the credibility of the documents. They said the nazim ordered their (grabbers) arrest, but the police did not comply with his orders.
Sources said the land grabbers later approached a top political figure and restarted construction work.
When contacted, Ajnala confirmed that the illegally constructed shops had been demolished.
However, he expressed his ignorance that the grabbers had restarted construction work.
