KARACHI, May 10: Senior citizens living in Defence have demanded of the DHA to treat them at par with those senior citizens who retire from Defence forces.

A delegation of Defence Residents Society (DRS), led by its President Zafar Iqbal, made this demand while meeting the Chief Executive Officer, Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) Iftikhar Mir.

They demanded life time pension, free medical treatment and other benefits.

Zafar Iqbal also demanded that CBR should not charge tax on transfer of property as this tax is charged by the DHA, so double taxation is unjust and should be avoided.

Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saiduzzaman Siddiqui who is a life member of Defence Residents Society had earlier explained the legal aspects of the double taxation.

The CEO-CBC assured DRS delegation that the two matters will be studied and proper action would be taken.

Mr Iftikhar Mir said the CBC would not increase property tax in its jurisdiction for next three years, and legal advisors would be consulted for avoidance of double taxation on transfer of property.

The DRS delegation protested over cutting of trees in DHA on which the CEO explained the reasons for removal of eucalyptus trees.—APP
