Hafizabad gang-rape case: One of the suspects ‘killed in accomplices firing’

GUJRAT: One of the four suspects involved in the gang rape of a married woman in front of her husband, was allegedly killed in the firing by his own accomplices during an “encounter” with a Crime Control Department (CCD) team near Jorian bridge in Kassoki police precincts, Hafizabad district, on Thursday.

Sources in the CCD say the police had been informed about the presence of the suspects involved in the gang rape case, upon which a team conducted a raid on a premises near Jorrian bridge along an open drain.

On seeing the police party, the armed opened fire that was returned by policemen.

The sources say that when the firing stopped, the police found a body which was identified as of one of the four gang-rape suspects, Khawar, a rickshaw driver.

The sources claimed the suspect was killed in his accomplices firing.

They say that the remaining suspects managed to flee the scene, while the police shifted the body to the Hafizabad District Headquarters Hospital where doctors later conducted autopsy.

The police have registered a case against the fleeing suspects under sections 302, 324, 353, 186 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code and the Punjab Arms (amendment) Ordinance 2015 on the report of CCD Sub Inspector Ali Hassan and started investigation.

Earlier, on May 3, the Kassoki police had lodged a case against eight suspects, four of them nominated, for subjecting a married woman to gang rape in front of her husband on April 25 after intercepting the couple when they were returning to their native Mangat Ucha village, Hafizabad, from Noshehra Virkan, Gujranwala.

The suspects had also forced the couple to perform sexual acts in front of them and recorded their video, which they later uploaded on social media, prompting the police to file the FIR.

The victim couple said they did not shared their ordeal with the police earlier, fearing the suspects would kill them.

Police are conducting raids to arrest the fleeing suspects.
