LHCBA opposes BHC acting CJ’s posting

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) has expressed reservations and serious concern over the posting of an acting chief justice in the Balochistan High Court (BHC) once again, instead appointment of a regular office-holder.

In a joint statement, LHCBA President Asif Ahmad Nissoana and other office-bearers termed the appointment of an acting chief justice to head the BHC a blatant injustice to the constitutional, judicial and administrative rights of Balochistan.

They said this practice raises questions about the independence and autonomy of the judiciary.

The bar leaders demanded that the appointment of the chief justice in Balochistan be made on a permanent basis without delay.

They also sought that it should be in accordance with the Constitution and on the principle of seniority, to prevent uncertainty in the delivery of justice to the people of the province.

Vowing to continue raising their voice against the move, the LHCBA leaders called upon all bar councils in the country to stand in solidarity with the Balochistan bar on this important issue.
