QWP to launch campaign against provincial govt after Eid

PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) has decided to launch a campaign after Eidul Aza to highlight what it calls bad governance and corruption of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Addressing a meeting of QWP provincial office-bearers here on Wednesday, provincial chairman of the party Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao said that mega corruption scandals were emerging in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that belied the claims of PTI that it was fighting corruption.

He said that the slogan of change was a ploy to reach the corridors of power. He said that PTI hoodwinked Pakhtuns. He said that QWP would highlight the corrupt practices of the PTI to awaken Pakhtuns. He said that the resources of Pakhtuns were being ruthlessly exploited.

The QWP leader said that chief minister was busy in making arrangements for political gatherings. He added that over the last two years, the PTI government did not plead the case of the rights of province with the centre.

He said that provincial government was organising political rallies. “Until now, the chief minister did not have time to secure the rights of the province,” he said. He added that PTI leaders were only interested in release of their party founder from jail.

He said that law and order had deteriorated in the province to the extent that even the chief minister could not visit his hometown. He maintained that even the government employees had been directed to restrict their movement after sunset.

Sikandar Sherpao said that PTI was the only political party to have formed the provincial government three times in a row, but it made no achievements. He said that PTI came to power with the slogan of fighting corruption but ended up setting new records of bad governance and financial scandals.

“A new corruption scandal is emerging every day. Jobs are being sold openly. There is no merit system. Law and order is deteriorating rapidly,” he alleged.

He also criticised PTI for relying heavily on social media to address public issues while people of the province were facing real-life problems.

He claimed that many development projects currently being inaugurated by PTI lawmakers were originally approved during the QWP tenure. “They are putting plaques of their names on our projects,” he claimed.

Sikandar Sherpao said that QWP was ready to re-enter the political arena with renewed energy and would work to build the party into a strong political force.
