THATTA: Sujawal grid station caught fire late on Thursday night, plunging into darkness the Sujawal town, Mirpur Bathoro, Chuhar Jamali, Jati, industrial area and adjoining areas.

Local officials of Hyderabad Electricity Supply Company told media persons on Friday that the fire caused by a technical fault completely destroyed transformers, panel boards and all important cables at the grid station.

The power utility had initiated emergency repair work after Hesco Chief Executive Officer Faizullah Dahri took notice of the incident and ordered immediate restoration of power, they said.

They said that Hesco had shifted new transformers and machinery to Sujawal and work was progressing at a rapid pace. Currently, all six feeders originating from the grid station had been shut down and electricity supply from the Ladiyon grid station had also been suspended, they said.

They said that it might take another five days to completely restore power.

Meanwhile, the power outage across Sujawal town and the entire district has led to severe water crisis amid intense heat, which has exacerbated the situation for citizens.
