Court orders cut in power outage duration in Dera

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The Peshawar High Court’s Dera Bench has ordered an immediate one-third reduction in electricity outages across the district.

The order was issued by Justice Dr Khurshid Iqbal during the hearing of a constitutional petition challenging the ongoing power outages in the region.

The court directed Peshawar Electric Supply Company to immediately reduce power outages by one-third across all feeders of the district under the existing schedule.

Representing the petitioners were advocates Mohammad Waqar Alam, Malik Hidayatullah Malana, Mohammad Mohsin Ali, and Jamal Abdul Nasir Awan. The federal ministry of energy and Pesco were represented by Anwar Awan, Jehanzaib Ahmad Chughtai, Mohammad Tufail (legal officer, ministry of energy), Nader Zaman Kundi (superintending engineer), Muaz Ahmad (executive engineer, rural division), and Naeem Kundi (regional engineer).

During the proceedings, the ministry of energy’s representative informed the court that a formal response from the ministry would soon be submitted through the assistant attorney general.

Additionally, a copy of the Supreme Court’s decision dated October 17, 2023, was also presented in court, offering guidance on the admissibility of such petitions.
