PHF names jr squad for Poland

PESHAWAR, May 7: Pakistan Hockey Federation on Sunday announced an 18-member national junior hockey team for the eight-nation tournament from May 29 in Poland.

The team was announced after two-day trials.

Chief selector Khalid Mahmood said the trials were held at five centres in which 1,000 players participated from across the country out of which 167 were shortlisted.

Following the shortlisting of players, 66 were recommended for the trials and finally 18 players were selected. One of the probables, Fareed, was injured during the trials but he was included in the team subject to medical fitness. M. Shakeel will replace Fareed if the latter fails fitness test.

Full-backs: Waqas Ahmed, Sajid Khan, Shahzad Aslam, Kashif Ali

Half-backs: M. Ateeq, M. Irfan , M. Zaheer, Amir Shahzad

Forwards: Adil Hussain, Irfan Ali Khan, Haseem Khan, Shafqat Rasool, Abbas Haider, M. Imran, Imran Malik, Atif.
